About

Artisan City Church is a brand new church in downtown St. Pete pursuing beauty from brokenness. We are a church for both skeptics and saints.
Friedrich Nietzsche often said that your life is a work of art and you should spend your life trying to paint the most beautiful picture with that life. The problem is most everyone who follows his advice feels an existential angst that our lives lack the potency and wonder we long for.

We believe every life is a work of art and that when we hand the paintbrush over to the Divine Artisan to make us into whatever He desires, God will create something beautiful in and through us.
Whether you haven't ever been to church, haven't been in a while, or want to be a part of bringing beauty from brokenness in downtown St. Pete, we'd love to meet you!
We currently have interest nights, connect events, prayer nights, and team gatherings as we prepare to launch.
Chris will serve as the Pastor of Teaching and Vision. Jesus saved Chris out of heroin addiction in 2010 and gave him a taste of the pleasure, goodness, truth, and beauty he’d been looking for his whole life. Ever since then, he's devoted his life to sharing Christ with as many people as possible. He graduated from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with a Masters of Theological Studies. The Dews family mission is to love and enjoy God, love and serve each other, and love others by sharing the Gospel and making disciples. For nearly a decade, they have been living this out by doing itinerant ministry around the country, but now God has made it clear the next season of ministry is leading a church in St. Pete. Chris, Kathleen, Evelyn (3), and Quinn (1) are leaving everything they’ve ever known in obedience to Jesus because He is worth it!
AJ will serve as Pastor of Teams and Development. AJ was called into ministry at sixteen years old and has worked in youth ministry at churches across the country for eighteen years. AJ graduated from Liberty Theological Seminary with a Masters of Religious Studies and Discipleship. The Holts believe Philippians 4:13 is true. They trust and believe that no matter the circumstance, anything God asks of you is possible in His power. They have moved across several states, adopted their son, and are planting Artisan City in response to listening to God’s voice and trusting Him to make the way possible. AJ, Liberty, McKenna (12), Grayden (10), Henleigh (7), and Whitaker (2) are leaving their sending church of ten years in Charlotte to move to St. Pete and see God's vision for Artisan City Church become reality.
Our mission is to passionately pursue God's presence, practices, and people, as we pour out our lives for the good of others.

Beliefs

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
God:
God, the Divine Artisan, created all things out of an overflow of love and joy in Himself. He is the source of all beauty, creating and sustaining all things for His glory, our joy, and the world's good. God is one. He is unchanging, all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present. He eternally exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God reveals himself in the Old and New Testaments as holy, personal, and the essence of love. All creation points to him and longs for his perfect beauty.

Jesus Christ:
Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, eternally exists as the Creator of the cosmos. He is fully God and fully man. Two thousand years ago, Jesus, being born of the Virgin Mary, entered history as the incarnate Son of God. Put to death under Pontius Pilate, Jesus was physically raised from the dead and appeared to over 500 people. He then ascended into Heaven, is seated at the right hand of God, and will one day return to make all things new. Jesus is the Savior of the world.

Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit eternally exists as the third person of the Trinity. Present at creation and working throughout redemptive history, He is given to each believer at the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, draws people to salvation, brings about new birth, and empowers followers of Jesus for godly living, bold witness, and perseverance. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He is the active agent that brings beauty from brokenness.

Scripture:
The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are divinely inspired, authoritative, and without error in all that they aim to teach. Scripture is God's special revelation of himself, written by dozens of authors over fifteen hundred years. It tells one unified story of God’s glory and human salvation through Jesus Christ.

Humanity:
Human beings, God’s masterpiece and the pinnacle of creation, were made in his image to be his representatives on Earth. Though made to know and enjoy God, to love and serve each other, and to use the earth's resources to flourish and make much of God, humanity gave in to demonic temptation and rebelled against God. Seeking to redefine good and evil, humanity chose created things over the Creator. Now, each person, born into sin, is without the ability to change or choose God without his intervention. Human sin, satan, and the value systems of the world conspire against God to perpetuate injustice, destruction, and death.

Redemption:
The good news is this: rather than leaving the world in a mess, God came to bring about its redemption through Jesus Christ. Jesus lived without sin, taught and demonstrated God's kingdom, and ultimately died the death we deserve, paying for sin and disarming the devil. He physically resurrected, conquering death itself. We are reconciled to God and enter his Kingdom by repenting of our sin and believing in Jesus Christ. As a result of this forgiveness, we seek to follow Jesus and live under His Lordship. Faith in Jesus is the only way to be reconciled to God. Soon, Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead. He will eradicate all evil and injustice, restoring the entire cosmos to a glorified state without sin or evil. Followers of Jesus, evidenced by persevering faith, will be resurrected into eternal life in this beautiful renewed cosmos, and those who have rejected Christ will experience eternal judgment.

Sexuality:
We believe all people are made in the image of God and, therefore, worthy of dignity. We desire to be a place where sexual minorities can have a traditional church experience. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination, slander, or bigotry. Every person has their own form of sexual brokenness. We aim to be a safe place for people with all forms of sexual brokenness to wrestle and grow while being loved and cared for, while we seek to grow in sexual holiness. Scripture defines God’s design for sexuality as one man and one woman in the context of lifelong covenant marriage or celibacy.

Gifts of the Spirit:
Scripture teaches and redemptive history affirms that all of the gifts of the Spirit are available today for the purpose of advancing God's Kingdom and building up the Church. All spiritual gifts should be practiced in an orderly way.

Baptism:
Each person who places their faith in Jesus should be baptized by immersion as an outward expression of what has occurred in their union with Christ. Baptism is the declaration of the renunciation of the ways of the world, the flesh, and the devil and devoting oneself to Jesus, His ways, and the Church.

Role of Women in Ministry:
We believe the most faithful reading of the Bible is what is often referred to as soft complementarian. This means that women are encouraged and equipped for every role inside and outside the church, including teaching roles, with the role of Lead Pastor and Elder reserved for men. Under sacrificial male headship in the church and marriage, women should thrive in their callings and giftings.

Membership:
We believe the most biblically faithful and practical way to follow Jesus and experience community is to belong to a local church. The church is the best place to experience care and accountability. We call membership at Artisan City Church, Partnership. Partnership is for people who are devoted to Jesus, have been baptized, and desire to passionately pursue God’s presence, practices, and people as we pour out our lives for the good of others. Becoming a partner includes learning about, believing in, and faithfully living out our shared beliefs, mission, values, and practices.
